THE DIRECT CHANGE SOLUTION® (DCS) METHOD
Direct Change Solution® (DCS) is a structured methodology for identity transformation based on the Internal Autobiographical Map (IAM) framework.
Direct Change Solution® (DCS) is an original methodology developed by Prof. Dr. Stoyana Natseva, within an integrative psychological framework for the formation, maintenance and transformation of identity.

The model behind the method: Internal Autobiographical Map (IAM)
The Internal Autobiographical Map (IAM) is a structural psychological model that describes how autobiographical experiences are encoded, interpreted and organised into inner rules that shape an individual’s identity, behaviour and outcomes.
Operational definition of the method: Direct Change Solution® (DCS) is a structured methodology for identity transformation through the targeted modification of autobiographical cognitive-emotional patterns.
Structure of the model (IAM)
The formation of inner reality unfolds through sequential stages:
Significant experience
Emotional encoding
Meaning attribution
Cognitive conclusion
Identity formation
Behavioural pattern formation
Automatic reaction
Result
This sequence builds a stable inner structure that governs perceptions, decisions and actions.
Mechanism of change (DCS Protocol v1.0)
The method applies a standardised protocol for working with the inner structure:
Activation of autobiographical memory
Identification of the primary record and the cognitive conclusion
Functional awareness of the pattern
Accessing a resource state
Cognitive reframing
Memory reconsolidation
Reorganisation of the response
Behavioural integration
Stabilisation of the result
The focus is on the cause-and-effect structure, not on the symptoms.
Identity-to-Outcome Model
The inner structure manifests through a hierarchy:
Identity (who I am)
Decisions (what I choose)
Actions (how I act)
Results (what I create)
There is a confirmation cycle: Result → Evidence → Identity
Outcomes of applying the method
The outcomes are deep, structural and observable, because they stem from a change in the Internal Autobiographical Map (IAM).
1. Cognitive outcomes
Change in automatic interpretations
Reduction of cognitive distortions
Formation of new inner rules
2. Emotional outcomes
Reduced intensity and duration of negative emotions
Improved emotional regulation
Increased resilience
3. Behavioural outcomes
Interruption of automatic patterns
New actions in familiar situations
Greater intentionality
4. Identity-level outcomes
Change in self-definition
Formation of new inner roles
Stability of the new identity
5. Real-life outcomes
Improvement in relationships
Professional realisation
Achievement of specific goals
6. Empirical data
Correlation with psychological resilience up to r = 0.764 (p < .001)
Explains up to 88.46% of the variance
Demonstrated effects on emotional regulation and coping
These findings are documented through peer-reviewed publications on the IAM framework and psychological resilience. Details of these findings are available in the published IAM research papers and associated scientific publications.
Practical outcomes (Point A → Point B)
Case 1 – wellbeing and identity
A: chronic stress, inner tension
B: a stabilised state, emotional control, improved quality of life
Case 2 – relationships
A: recurring conflict patterns
B: changed responses, building stable relationships
Case 3 – professional realisation
A: lack of results despite effort
B: clarity, action, real achievements
